The topics of food, weight loss and lifestyle are quite confusing for the average net user since there is a lot of contradicting information available. For example: some say that saturated fats are bad for your heart and some say they are not! So how do you know whom to believe?
HWI has the answer for you: the national agencies of many developed nations such as USA, UK etc. (even India) and international agencies such as WHO/FAO take into consideration ALL the studies done in the area of ,food, for example, look at all the evidence in this ‘study of all existing studies’ called ‘meta analysis study’ and then formulate their guidelines on the basis of the evidence that emerges from these meta analysis studies. Some examples of these guidelines would be ‘ICMR/NIN’s Dietary Guidelines for Indians’, ‘USDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans’ etc.
Also, there are ongoing studies, much smaller in scope, which sometimes challenge the established results of meta analysis studies. These studies, get covered a lot in the blogs and articles available on the net. HOWEVER, until the expert guidelines change their existing recommendations, you should know that these studies do not refute the existing evidence conclusively
